  • Overview

    SRO Permanent supportive housing communities serving adults with very low-income, or no income, who were all deemed homeless or chronically homeless and disabled at the time of application. All facilities operate from a harm reduction and Housing First model, meaning we serve very vulnerable individuals who endure or struggle with trauma, substance abuse, mental health and/or serious medical problems. Janitorial Staff are often exposed to challenging behaviors and/or difficult clean up situations that arise from close communal settings and/or from active alcohol or drug use.


    Staff works from a multi-disciplinary approach in which all staff coordinates services to ensure residents achieves housing stability in an environment that promotes individual dignity and respect. This position is vital to maintaining and cleaning commune areas, offices and resident's rooms at time of turnover, according to a janitorial scheduled.


    This position will be On-Call to help support three of our SRO Communities including, Ozanam House, The Westlake and the Wintonia. All three buildings are located in Downtown Seattle Core. Rate of pay is $15.45--$15.90/hour DOQ.


    1. Clean bathrooms, tub and shower rooms, according to building standards.
    2. Restock soap, paper towel dispensers and other supplies.
    3. Mop tile floors and stairwells according to schedule.
    4. Prepare vacant rooms for rental including pack out and thorough cleaning according to prescribed procedures.
    5. Empty building trash and collect and sort recycling receptacles.
    6. Frequently respond to emergency  cleanups where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids (urine, vomit, feces, blood) and other potentially infectious material.
    7. Wear proper personal protective equipment at all times.
    8. Maintain janitor closets and storage areas in a clean and safe condition, including labeling and mixing chemicals according to SDS instructions. 
    9. Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition.
    10. Report on building systems performance.
    11. Maintain and adhere to strong professional ethics and boundaries.
    12. Tolerate and react appropriately to unusual, difficult or unpleasant behaviors while reporting crisis situations or odd activities to staff or management.
    13. Practice excellent communication skills, and at times, carry a walkie talkie for safety and for ease of communication so you can respond to any emergencies.
    14. Other duties as assigned.  


    General Responsibilities:

    2. Alert management team members to non-maintenance and housekeeping areas of concern.
    3. Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in timesheets or complete TSheet entries on schedule.
    4. Attend trainings required of employees and staff meetings as scheduled.
    5. Become familiar with landlord/tenant law and the actions that are permissible for landlords.
    6. Maintain cooperative relationships with residents/businesses in surrounding neighborhood.
    7. Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
    8. Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment.

    1. One year experience and/or training in building janitorial services and an understanding of supplies, chemicals, and infection control principles.
    2. Work history which demonstrates reliability and dependability.
    3. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and residents and to follow oral and written communication.
    4. Able to work independently and/or as member of a team.
    5. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
    6. Ability to work independently.
    7. Work or volunteer history that demonstrates ability to interact and communicate with a diverse population and maintain a positive customer service style.
    8. Ability to manage confidential information and demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
    9. Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
    10. Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
    11. Criminal history background checks are required prior to employment.



    1. Experience working with homeless persons and/or formerly homeless person.
    2. Experience working with chemically-dependent populations.
