St. Martin de Porres Shelter provides safe and dignified night shelter for homeless men age 50 and older. The shelter opened in response to the growing need for an emergency shelter for this special population of elderly men who are vulnerable to the weather, street predators, and illness. St. Martin de Porres Shelter provides night shelter, hot meals, clothing, hot showers, laundry facilities, housing assistance, drug and alcohol counseling and memorial services.
The bus driver transports clients to and from the St. Martin’s shelter. She or he drives the St. Martin’s bus from the Lazarus Day Center to the St. Martin’s shelter (3 or 4 round trips in the early evening, 3 hours total) and from St. Martin’s to the Lazarus Day Center and other points downtown in the morning (1 or two round trips, 2 hours total). This position is open morning and evenings for the weekends, and mornings during the week. It is available only as on-call for substitution on weekday evenings.
Compensation for this On-Call position is $17.59 per hour.
This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance. Working conditions may include interruptions, working alone, interactions with angry persons, and exposure to computer CRTs.
