Incumbent will be responsible for participating in the assessment strategies of potential foster parents in preparation for the state licensing process, and for child placement and case management associated with maintaining children in the homes.  This position will include recruitment of potential foster families and continuing education and supportive services.  Incumbent will work with interdisciplinary team in developing and implementing services in the family and children program.


This position is P/T Flexible (20-37.5 hrs. per week); hours will increase as caseload builds to approx. 30-37.5 hours per week.


Pay is $17.25 - $ 18.11/hr. DOE, plus excellent holiday / vacation / sick pay and health benefits!

Case management:

  • Maintain and support foster care families during child placement.
  • Provide ongoing support to foster care families, including crisis intervention and placement and ongoing education and training.
  • Make home visits to foster and birth families when appropriate for ongoing assessment and supportive services.
  • Document services provided within the guidelines of state regulations and policies and procedures of family and children services.
  • Transport children as appropriate.


Recruitment, orientation and training:

  • As determined by Service Integration Team, incumbent will participate in the recruitment, training and orientation of new foster care parents and homes.
  • Write and distribute PR notices and announcements to media, churches, clubs and other community sources.
  • Engage in public speaking and general public relations as needed.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources Department, recruit a pool of Community Support Specialist and participate in the orientation and training of this staff. These staff members will be cross-trained to work in all aspects of family and children services.  Incumbent will coordinate the training of these staff members within the service integration team model.


Documentation and reports:

  • Assist in the preparation of statistical reports that are required for auditing purposes.
  • Coordinate with DSHS and other appropriate community services regarding filling request for services.
  • Prepares quarterly assessments and reports as directed by the Team Leader or other members of the Service Integration Team.
  • In compliance with the programs guidelines, document each client contact in the official record.
  • In conjunction with Service Integration Team, work with funding sources in the maintenance and development of new funding.


On call availability:

  • On call availability may be rotated. Schedule will be determined in conjunction with Team Leader.


Other work related duties as assigned.



Incumbent is expected to develop proficiency in maintaining accurate client records in IRIS, the client tracking software application used throughout the agency. Specific proficiency includes entry of data into the client’s record, the editing of information as needed, and the printing of reports within IRIS.




  • BA in social services or related field.
  • 2 years’ experience in child placement and/or treatment of children and families.
  • Reliable transportation, valid WA State Driver’s License & proof of current automobile insurance.
  • Committed to the principles of family preservation and family oriented services.
  • Proof of acceptable driving record (Driving Abstract-Full driving record required).
  • Excellent communication, team building, interpersonal skills and ability to de-escalate crises.

  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.

  • Able to pass a DSHS criminal background check.
  • Criminal History Background Checks are required prior to employment.


  • Master’s Degree in Human Services or Master’s Degree in Social Work.
  • Experience in child placement.
  • Knowledge of licensing procedures of Foster Families.
