$15.60 - $17.95 HR/DOE

 

This is a 15 hour per week minimum part-time position in the International Foster Care Program, working with recent immigrant and refugee youth.   The position mostly involves transporting foster youth to various appointments locally with medical, legal, education, religious and other service providers.  Transportation is within Pierce, King, Kitsap and Thurston counties.  Additional responsibilities include assisting program staff with various office duties and projects as assigned. There could be occasional opportunities for air travel within the United States to transfer youth to other facilities, or for family reunification.  Must be able to quickly learn and become comfortable with foster youth’s placement, transfer or family reunification documentation.  Must be able to verify identification, and collect necessary signatures at point of transfer or reunification.  Although infrequent (once or twice per year), any air travel will consist of flying to destination one day, transferring custody at destination airport, one overnight stay in a hotel (not with youth) near the airport, and one day to fly back to Seattle International Airport.  Must be able to adjust to changes such as flight delays, or other unanticipated situations due to inclement weather. Paid training, and mileage reimbursement is provided.

Responsibilities

Transportation Responsibilities

  • Estimating distance, weather, driving, and traffic times so that youth arrive on time to appointments.
  • Ensure youth’s safety is maintained at all times during travel.
  • Verify sponsor’s government-issued I.D. at time of reunification.
  • Communicate (sometimes in Spanish) with family member/sponsor using cell phone to notify when plane has landed, and gate, terminal or baggage claim location.
  • Review documentation with providers, facility points-of-contact, or family member, and answer questions appropriately (sometimes in Spanish).

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree or equivalent college/work experience.
  • Basic conversational ability in Spanish (fluency not required).
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. (carryon baggage)
  • Must be able to navigate airport terminals, including transferring flights when necessary, and be comfortable driving long distances locally.
  • Experience working with immigrant youth who do not speak English.
  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy (required to provide current driving abstract)
  • Proof of negative TB test upon hire or proof of test within past 12 months.
  • First/Aid CPR certified or the ability to become certified within the 1 month of employment
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (fluent) Spanish/English
