Catholic Community Services, Homeless Adult Services (HAS) is the largest provider of adult homeless services in Tacoma, Washington. Nativity House (NH), a program of HAS, is the central hub to serve homeless adults in the Pierce County region.   It operates 24-hour/7-day a week, offering services (emergency shelter, meals, systematic outreach, Rapid Rehousing, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment, Employment Services, Spiritual Support, 50 units of permanent supportive housing, etc.) to meet the basic needs of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness guests with meeting their goals.

The Respite Supervisor for Nativity House is responsible for the day and overnight management and operation of the Respite Program, in accordance with the mission and policies of Catholic Community Services. The position oversees the respite program operations, supervises and provides direction to Respite Program Generalists, ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements, and is accountable for sound management of resources and achievement of key performance indicators of the program.

• Oversees the daily operations of the respite program.
• Oversee and provide behavioral management by helping guests to resolve conflicts and make pro-social choices through the grievance process.
• Ensure that each guest is given an intake interview to get an understanding of their history, issues contributing to homelessness, barriers to housing, and their stage of change.
• Ensure all reports and documentation is completed on a timely basis. Complete reports for all funding sources as needed.
• Participate in interviews and decision making for hiring Respite Program Generalists.
• Supervise all Respite Program Generalists by communicating effectively, setting clear and specific expectations.
• Mediate and resolve disputes consistent with agency corrective action policy.

• Ensures respite guests are connected with supportive services and are following their housing stability plan.
• Commit to, model and assure zero tolerance for discriminatory behavior.
• Develop and ensure the safekeeping of a workplace that values and supports a culturally and ethnically diverse work environment. Provides regular, real-time feedback, coaching, modeling and support to staff  responding to crisis situations, including:

• Individuals engaged in or about to engage in verbal and physical conflicts with each other,
• Individuals engaged in conflict with staff
• Reports of Individuals having weapons on premises
• Individuals experiencing Medical Crisis

• Communicates incidents, issues and other relevant information accurately and timely to appropriate staff through recording entries into computer system, log book and/or personally through meetings as appropriate.
• Ensure all relevant staff has proper training to be up to date with job knowledge.
• Reviews logbook and other communication systems daily to keep informed of issues
• Ensure filing and medication cabinets are locked at all times.
• Ensure respite office is clean and organized.
• Ensure that appropriate safety and sanitation procedures are being followed by regularly inspecting the facility for cleanliness and safety.
• Attend and participate in operations meeting
• Maintain a file on each respite guest in accordance with the records retention policy of Catholic Community Services.
• Remind and encourage respite guests to take self-administered medication.
• Immediately report all accidents, incidents, and changes in the respite guests’ health or condition to Operations Manager and partnered hospital.
• Accompany respite guest to medical appointments when respite guest requests or when respite guest is unable to go alone.
• Assist in arranging transportation for respite guest. May at times have to transport or pick up respite guest to and/or from Nativity House or medical appointment if needed.
• Deliver prescription orders to pharmacy and/or pick up filled prescriptions for respite guests’.
• Other duties as reasonably assigned.

1. Minimum Qualifications

• BA in social services or related field.
• Work with diverse population including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues
• Availability to work flexible hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends).
• Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months.
• Ability to obtain a CPR/First Aid Certification.

• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
• Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy. (required to provide current driving abstract)

1. Preferred Qualifications

• MA
•  A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience or 2 years’ experience in a lead capacity working with homeless individuals.
