    Residential setting that enables individuals with chronic mental health issues to utilize resources available to them via internal, external agency, system and community partners.


    Assist adults in Grays Harbor and Thurston County with complex behavioral health and/or substance use symptoms that possess significant problems with psychological and social functioning and provide clinical staffing to Housing Stability Case Managers at Drexel House to support homeless and formerly homeless clients with clinical needs.  Many of these clients are Medicaid eligible and experience homelessness or the risk of homelessness and present with mental health challenges in their journey toward treatment and/or recovery.  The Mental Health Professional (MHP) works as part of a team with Peer Specialists, BA Level Clinicians and staff and local social service agencies in providing outreach and engagement services to engender trust and instill a sense of hope. This is a professional position that will also provide therapeutic interventions including intake evaluation and assessment to determine medical necessity, alcohol/drug screening and brief intervention, brief intervention treatment, family treatment, group treatment services, individual treatment services counseling and case management.  It is anticipated that many of the duties of this position will be to provide skilled assessments of those seeking assistance.


    In addition to providing clinical mental health support, the MHP will manage additional support programs such as Feed the Hungry (FTH) and The Community Kitchen (TCK), two meal site programs located in Grays Harbor and Thurston County.   


    Clinical Responsibilities


    Case Supervision

    • Review and discuss cases and assesses the effectiveness of treatment options.
    • Provide ethical and legal directives based on clinical assessment

    Crisis Response

    • Respond to crisis calls 24/7 regarding self-harm harm to others, psychological instability and medication management difficulties needing safety assessment or referral to another provider.
    • Provide mental health intakes and assessments.
    • Provide and/or arrange necessary crisis response and stabilization services.
    • Complete the mental health intake, including a diagnostic assessment.
    • Consult and provide ongoing clinical trainings to the clinical team for mentoring, and development of skills around specific interventions.
    • Provide clinical orientation and training.
    • Be available for clinical consultation on a 24-hour 7/day a week basis.
    • Provide clinical oversight to mental health team and clinicians.
    • Monitor and direct clinical work of mental health team.

    Staff Supervision/Leadership

    • Supervise and train site staff at The Community Kitchen (2 staff) and Feed the Hungry (2 staff) including annual performance reviews.
    • Promote on-going training and support, and ensure attendance at all CCS/CHS mandatory and relevant trainings for site employees.
    • Facilitate regular staff meetings.
    • Attend external trainings as appropriate that relate to funding requirements or improved trends.
    • Responsible for oversight of community partners delivering services on-site for chemical dependency, mental health, counseling and veteran specific services.
    • Build relationships and partnerships with local providers and resources such as chemical dependency, employment, housing and veteran specific services.
    • Responsible for developing and safekeeping a workplace that values and supports a culturally and ethnically diverse work environment.

    Clinical Intake Evaluations

    • The MHP will provide an evaluation that is culturally and age relevant initiated prior to the provision of any other mental health services, except crisis services, stabilization services and free-standing evaluation and treatment.
    • Assess for immediate safety and stabilization needs.
    • The intake evaluation must be initiated within ten (10) business days of the request for services, establish the medical necessity for treatment and be completed within thirty (30) business days.
    • The MHP will assist to ensure that routine services are initiated and those services may begin before the completion of the intake once medical necessity is established. 

    The skilled clinician will demonstrate the ability to:

    • Provide non-judgmental, unconditional support to the consumer.
    • Meet and engage the consumer communicating compassion, support, respect and enthusiasm for them and your role as a helper.
    • Listen to the consumer’s story and, with them, identify strengths, needs, preferences and goals.
    • Provide and/or facilitate the provision of a range of therapeutic responses that support the overall direction for the consumer.
    • Maintain a focus on strengths, needs and creative solutions and inspire others to follow this format in problem solving.
    • Partner with the consumer in order to assist them in utilizing the resources offered by formal and informal sources within their community. 


    • Develop and manage annual operating budgets for FTH and TCK.
    • Write grants that support the operations of programs and/or positions needed to provide services.
    • Provide records and reports as requested by the Clinical Manager and/or Director of SW Housing Management.
    • Attend meetings as necessary and represent Catholic Community Services.
    • Assist with Marketing and Fundraising by creating videos and materials that represent the mission of CCS/CHS and the stories of clients that received services in CCS/CHS programs.
    • Develop, manage and maintain TCK & FTH Facebook page in accordance with CCS social media policy.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in counseling, mental health counseling, social work, psychology, behavioral sciences or equivalent.
    • Certified Mental Health Professional as defined in WAC 388-877-0200 & WAC 388-865-0150.
    • At least 2 years of experience performing Mental Health Assessments using the DSM, and providing individual counseling, group counseling, and treatment planning for individuals identified as having Co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
    • At least one year’s experience in working with or related to working with adults experiencing homelessness.
    • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
    • Certified Washington State Counselor (HIV/AIDS training required).
    • Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months and ability to test within first six months of employment.

    • Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy. (required to provide current driving abstract).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • One (1) or more years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, significant mental illness, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring disorder.
    • One (1) or more years of experience providing clinical supervision to Peer Navigators or Mental Health Professionals.
