  • Overview

    Staff utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure residents achieve housing stability in an environment that promotes individual dignity and respect.


    This position is vital to maintaining and cleaning common areas, offices and resident rooms at time of turnover, according to a janitorial schedule.


    This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week position and includes benefits and generous paid time off.  Pay range is $15.45-$15.90/hour DOQ.


    • Clean bathrooms, tub and shower rooms, according to building standards.
    • Restock soap, paper towel dispensers and other supplies.
    • Mop tile floors and stairwells according to schedule.
    • Prepare vacant rooms for rental including pack out and thorough cleaning according to prescribed procedures.
    • Empty building trash and collect and sort recycling receptacles.
    • Respond to emergency cleanups where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids (urine, vomit, feces, blood) and other potentially infectious material.
    • Wear proper personal protective equipment at all times. 
    • Maintain janitor closets and storage areas in a clean and safe condition, including labeling and mixing chemicals according to SDS instructions.
    • Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition.
    • Report on building systems performance.
    • Maintain and adhere to strong professional ethics and boundaries.
    • Tolerate and react appropriately to unusual, difficult or unpleasant behavior(s) while reporting crisis situations or odd activities to staff or management.
    • Other duties as assigned.  

    General Responsibilities:

    1. Practice excellent communication skills.
    2. Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy.
    3. Alert management team members to non-maintenance and housekeeping areas of concern.
    4. Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in timesheets or complete TSheet entries on schedule.
    5. Attend trainings required of employees and staff meetings as scheduled.
    6. Become familiar with landlord/tenant law and the actions that are permissible for landlords.
    7. Maintain cooperative relationships with residents/businesses in surrounding neighborhood.
    8. Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
    9. Contribute to and support a positive, team-oriented work environment.
    10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.



    1. One year experience and/or training in building janitorial services.
    2. Work history which demonstrates reliability and dependability.
    3. Ability to communicate effectively in English with staff and residents and to follow oral and written communication. Able to work independently and/or as member of a team.
    4. Work or volunteer history which demonstrates ability to interact and communicate with others.
    5. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
    6. Ability to work independently.
    7. Ability to understand and respond to requests in English.
    8. Work history that demonstrates reliability and dependability.
    9. Work or volunteer history that demonstrates ability to interact and communicate with a diverse population and maintain a positive customer service style.
    10. Experience and/or training in building janitorial services and an understanding of supplies, chemicals, and infection control principles.
    11. Ability to work within the mission, goals and objectives of Catholic Housing Services and Catholic Community Services.
