    Dorothy Day House (DDH) is a staff supported resident managed housing program for 41 formerly homeless women.  Twenty-four units are subsidized by Seattle Housing Authority and the remaining seventeen units are funded by Continuum of Care Program.  The minimum criteria to be eligible for residency at DDH are single, homeless adult female with an income under 30% of area median income.  She must be able to live independently and participate in a resident managed housing community.  Residents utilize off-site social services as needed, including job training, health care, mental health care and other services, with the assistance of the Resident Services Manager.



    The Dorothy Day House Resident Services Manager is responsible for the implementation of the supportive services component of the program.  Responsibilities include recruiting and screening residents for the program; referring residents to a variety of services; participating in committee work with residents, responding to crisis situations, providing guidance in the development of community and self-government living skill, and assisting residents in developing a peer support system.  There will be some evening hours depending on need, as well as on-call coverage.



    Case Management

    • Provide case management support to residents by assessing their needs, identifying community resources, facilitating resident access to services and establishing persona independence goals.
    • Advocate for residents on a continual basis to ensure consistency service from agencies and systems.
    • Coordinate services of visiting professionals, including public health and visiting nurses, mental health counselors, chemical dependency counselors, chore workers. Assist with the coordination and scheduling of the use of facilities, arrange for interdisciplinary connections, and monitor services to resident.
    • Collect, organize and make available to residents current information about resources in various areas, including income, health care, employment, transportation, documentation, and support services. Expand resources through community contact and information services.
    • Provide information and application assistance to residents seeking other housing opportunities. Assist in planning and arrangements for nursing home placement or assisted living placements for residents unable to maintain independent housing.
    • Take the lead to intervene in resident crises (medical/mental health/interpersonal) and collaborate with other staff to maintain safety and well-being of residents.
    • Maintain records of resident contracts, referrals and interactions in case notes that reflect aspects of goals/treatment plans, tying together the various services and interventions used in case management file.
    • Seek team consultation on a regular basis to ensure quality of care for residents.
    • Coordinate and participate in care conferences between the resident, clinical team and DDH team.

    Resident Relations/ Leadership

    • Assist in the promotion of “community” among all residents through advising on resident committees:
    • Cleaning Committee
      • Meet and advise the resident run committee on all chore related issues amongst the residents.
    • Screening and Safety Committee
      • Recruit potential applicants through women’s shelter for the Seattle Housing Authority subsidized units. Locate applicants and work with service providers to prepare applicants for the screening process.
      • Work with the committee to interview applicants and assess ability to live autonomously in the community.
      • Conduct background search to determine which applicants require further diagnostic screening by mental health or chemical dependency professionals.
      • Maintain and update application waiting list, ensuring compliance with HUD regulations.
    • Continuum of Care Units
      • Work with the Program Director to place referrals for unit openings in the King County Coordinated Entry system. Work with the applicant to complete all necessary paperwork for move-in.
    • Assist residents in the coordination of all monthly resident community activities, groups, special events and meetings (i.e., House Meeting, Thanksgiving Party, etc.)
    • Work with the Coming Home Housing Specialist to assist new residents with transitioning into Dorothy Day House. This includes preparing welcome home baskets.
    • Mediate disputes between residents.
    • Create a monthly resident calendar and newsletter with upcoming events in the community.


    Community Development

    • Represent Catholic Housing Services/Dorothy Day House at appropriate community and provider forums as requested.
    • Work with Program Director to develop the quarterly newsletter for supporters of Dorothy Day House.
    • Coordinate donations and work with the Program Director to conduct fund raising activities as needed to support residents and the program needs.
    • Recruit volunteers as needed.


    Facilities Management:

    • In collaboration with the Maintenance Tech and Business Manager, coordinate monthly and annual unit inspections, pest control inspections and ongoing unit turnovers.


    Management Team:

    • Function as a member of the management team participating in the overall operation of the project. Enforce program policies and guidelines.
    • Share after hours on-call pager duties on a rotating basis with other management staff.
    • Responsible for the operation of the program while on-call or in the absence of the Program Director including but not limited to: facilities emergencies, resident related emergencies, landlord functions such as responding to lease violations and resident grievances, supervision and support of resident desk staff and facilitating staff meetings and resident house meetings.
    • Assist in the development of the budget regarding resident services.
    • Cultivate and support a positive team-oriented work environment by responding to all emails, assisting team members and communicating clearly any information that may be beneficial for the management team to know.


    General Duties:

    • Uphold and model the service mission of Catholic Housing Services in all aspects of work life.
    • Maintain an environment that honors cultural awareness and competency.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    • Two years of experience in direct social service, including advocacy for low-income populations and working with special needs populations.
    • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, issue assessment, and crisis intervention with ability to maintain client chart records.
    • Understanding of problems homeless women often face, including alcohol and drug abuse, mental illness, domestic violence, and chronic homelessness.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing and maintain a professional and positive demeanor at all times.
    • Ability to work effectively with community professionals.
    • Experience working in residential facility or an understanding of residential settings.   Knowledge of the principles of self-governance or the ability to learn.
    • Basic computer skills with ability to maintain client records produce community resource information flyers, and informational materials.
    • Ability to work within the mission, goals and objective of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services



    • BA degree in Social Service or related field.
    • One year experience in resident management.
    • Experience in crisis intervention and ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
    • Background in shelters, low-income housing programs, drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness or homelessness.
    • Ability to work within the mission, goals, and service objectives of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
