    Program Description:

    St. Martin de Porres Shelter provides safe and dignified night shelter for homeless men age 50 and older. The shelter opened in response to the growing need for an emergency shelter for this special population of elderly men who are vulnerable to the weather, street predators, and illness.  St. Martin de Porres Shelter provides night shelter, hot meals, clothing, hot showers, laundry facilities, housing assistance, drug and alcohol counseling and memorial services.


    Position Description:
    The bus driver transports clients to and from the St. Martin’s shelter. They drive the St. Martin’s bus from the Lazarus Day Center to the St. Martin’s shelter (3 or 4 round trips in the early evening, 3 hours total) and from St. Martin’s to the Lazarus Day Center and other points downtown in the morning (1 or two round trips, 2 hours total).  This position is open morning and evenings for the weekends, and mornings during the week. 


    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Drive the St. Martin’s bus on the assigned routes and times.
    • Operate the bus safely and reliably.
    • Treat clients with respect and understanding at all times.
    • Assist the accompanying staff member with any problems with clients.



    • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with a Passenger Endorsement.
    • Understanding of homelessness and accompanying issues.
    • Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
    • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
    • Criminal history background checks are required prior to employment.



    • Experience with chronically homeless men.
