Catholic Housing Services believes everyone deserves the right to a safe, affordable place to call home.  Inspired by this vision, CHS develops, owns and manages affordable housing programs for low-income families and individuals; currently including 2,100 units of housing in 50 different buildings across Western Washington.   Bakhita Gardens is located in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood and serves women exiting homelessness. Noel House provides interim housing for 40 women, and Rose of Lima is a congregate residence of 50 single-room-occupancy dwelling units.  Bakhita Gardens also houses administrative office space, and a ground floor retail space. The building exterior adheres to the neighborhood typology of single-lot prewar brick apartment buildings, while its interior respects program participants’ dignity and need for therapeutic surroundings to move forward from the trauma they have experienced previously.

Next to Bakhita Gardens, a sister property stands called Dorothy Day House. Dorothy Day House is a residence for homeless women. The Seattle residence provides 41 single units for low-income adult women, many of whom are disabled. Each unit is furnished with a bed, table, microwave, sink, and toilet. Community baths and kitchens are located on each floor. Rents are based on income. On site staffing supports each resident in achieving and maintaining a level of functioning that will enable each woman to live independently.
