THE FEDERAL WAY DAY CENTER IS LOCATED IN FEDERAL WAY, WA IS LOOKING FOR DRIVEN AND COMPASSIONATE INDIVIDUALS THAT WILL ASSIST IN FOSTERING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR VULNERABLE POPULATIONS.

 

Catholic Community Services operates two day centers located in South King County. The Community Engagement Center in Kent and The Federal Way Day Center in Federal Way. These hygiene center programs provide a welcoming, warm, and safe place with a community atmosphere for homeless and marginally housed single adults and families. It is anticipated that the Day Center will serve roughly 50 individuals daily; those seeking a place to rest, shower, complete their laundry, and connect with area service providers.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight of the daily operations of the Federal Way Day Center, which operates from Monday - Friday from 9am-4pm. The program manager maybe off site when on-call staff is present.

  • Complete set-up of the Day Center prior to opening.
  • Monitor daily activities of the Day Center and communicate with Supervisor regularly.
  • Supervise volunteers.
  • Read and oversee the daily log activities.
  • Communicate regularly with staff to discuss challenges and create solutions.
  • Maintain calm and welcoming presence.
  • Treat all clients in a culturally sensitive manner, assuring the CCS’ commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity is met. Actively seek to become informed on issues where culturally-determined perceptions may be significant.
  • Monitor client behavior and implement consequences.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with agency policy.
  • Monitor the state of the Day Center and collaborate with Supervisor.
  • Clean-up the Day Center after each day of operation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in all areas.
  • Recruit and Coordinate with potential volunteers, explaining the Day Center and answering questions.
  • Monitor the quality of services provided by volunteers by providing necessary feedback.

Maintain client information according to Quality Assurance standards:

  • Maintain client information and ensure all necessary documentation is included.
  • Complete logs and other required documents explained by supervisor
  • Make sure client mail is tracked, stored and distributed safely, according to agency policy. 

Physical and Mental Acuity Requirements

  • Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation and face-to-face conversation, door bells and emergency alarms.
  • Able to speak clearly in person and on the telephone.
  • Able to hand write legibly.
  • Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor living spaces and identify concerns that require staff response.
  • Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
  • Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
  • Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to enable keying into a unit or other locked area as well as using computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to lift, move and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.
  • Able to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties.

Qualifications

  • Six months volunteer or work experience working with homeless or vulnerable populations.
  • Sensitivity to homeless people and their situation.
  • Work history that demonstrates reliability and dependability.
  • Work or volunteer history that demonstrates ability to interact and communicate with others.
  • Understanding the disease of alcoholism and other substance abuse issues.

  • Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful environment that promotes teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
