Program Description

Sidney Wilson House in Renton is a permanent supportive housing program of Coordinated Care Agency.  We offer 105 adult men and women studio apartments in a converted extended-stay hotel. Eligible tenants have been chronically homeless, have disabilities, and have low incomes.
We provide 24-hour staff support to our residents using a Housing First and Harm Reduction approach. 

 

Position Description

We believe that every person has the right to a safe, affordable place to call home.  We seek an Operations Assistant who cares deeply about the health and well-being of our residents who have lived through the trauma of homelessness.

 

The Operations Assistant is responsible for the response and upkeep of immediate safety/sanitation needs, keeping program supplies stocked, implementation of community activities including meal services, and day-to-day support of residents who would benefit from Housing Retention assistance, specifically with a focus on supporting their independent life skills.

The Operations Assistant collaborates closely with the on-site Case Managers to ensure residents remain stably housed.  This position is directly supervised by the Services Manager.

Responsibilities

Operations/Services Teams Support

  • Accompany the Facilities Manager during monthly Unit Inspections, taking notes to be shared with the Operations and Services teams.
  • Throughout each month, guide the residents to practice goal setting in order to prepare for their monthly Unit Inspections.
  • Communicate immediate health/safety concerns to both the Operations and Services teams, and participate in developing an intervention plan.
  • Purchase tenant requests for Reasonable Accommodation and other needs for their safe, successful independence.
  • Prepare newly turned units, including purchasing and staging daily household items for new tenants.

Supplies and Inventory

  • Monitor inventory and procure program supplies.
  • Coordinate the delivery and organization of supplies.
  • Respond to supply and Work Order needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of various storage spaces, including refrigerators, dry storage, and trash rooms.

Community Development

  • Plan, purchase supplies for, and serve a community meal with other staff, 2-3 times per month.
  • Partner with the Services team to implement community engagement activities and celebrations for the monthly Activity Calendar and Newsletter.
  • Partner with the Services Manager to build community outreach strategies for donors and vendors.

General

  • Observe/follow guidelines on confidentiality rights of residents and respect of privacy.
  • Maintain accurate record of hours worked and turn in timesheets on schedule.
  • Attend trainings required of employees.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Operations and Services teams.
  • Attend monthly All Staff Meetings.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Conditions

This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, pain and other materials used in building maintenance. Working conditions may include interruptions, interactions with upset people, and exposure to computer CRTs.

 

Physical And Mental Acuity Requirements

  • Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation, doorbells, emergency alarms and face-to-face conversation.
  • Able to speak clearly in person and on the telephone.
  • Able to hand write legibly.
  • Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor large space and identify concerns that require staff response.
  • Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to enable keying into locked areas as well as using a computer and other office equipment.
  • Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
  • Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift, move and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties.

Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License and ability to qualify as an acceptable driver under CCS policy for driving an agency vehicle.
  • At least six months of direct experience in a shelter or other social service programs, including knowledge of homelessness, mental illness and addictions.
  • Ability to work with people who may have issues related substance addiction, physical and mental health problems, and who may be in need of social living skills.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and clients from a strength-based style for positive resolution.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize many tasks in a busy work environment.
  • Demonstrate attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Work history that demonstrates reliability and dependability.
  • Ability to learn basic food safety and Public Health requirements for meal and/or foodbank programs.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Commitment to Harm Reduction, Housing First, and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Support the mission, beliefs and values of Coordinated Care Agency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
